Mental Health Month was first established in 1949; Mental Health America is credited with starting the national trend of recognizing and promoting mental health awareness in the month of May.

In 2013 President Obama reaffirmed the importance of mental health awareness by proclaiming May as Mental Health Month and the first week of May as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

First Lady Michelle Obama spoke of the importance and opportunity at the launch of her initiative “Campaign to Change Direction“:

“It’s time to tell everyone dealing with a mental health issue that they are not alone, and that getting support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength.”

Spring 2014 Copeland Center WRAP Facilitator Graduates & Instructors

We are so proud to be part of the effort to reduce stigma and raise awareness of mental health issues and May is a great opportunity to highlight the HOPE that peers instill in others. Join us in this fight to gain the media’s attention and the world’s attention as we demonstrate the power of peers and the FACT that recovery is real and we are living it!

On May 16th, 2015, the National Alliance on Mental Wellness will be hosting their 13th annual NAMIWalks at Centennial Center Park at 9 a.m. This is a great event that helps to raise awareness towards mental illness. It is also a great excuse to go outside and get some exercise in that Colorado sunshine! Colorado Mental Wellness Network has a their own NAMIWalks team and we would love for you to join it. The Network gets to keep half of the donations raised for their team!
